emilio aversano
Born in Salerno, Emilio Aversano is an internationally renowned pianist who began his concert career at a very young age, performing in solo recitals and as a soloist with orchestras (Amici della Musica in Palermo, Ravello Festival).
CONCERT CAREER AND INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
He made his debut in Milan in 2002 for the Società dei Concerti at the Verdi Hall of the Conservatory, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 back-to-back, accompanied by the Bacau Orchestra under the direction of Ovidiu Balan.
The success of the evening was followed by the release of a live CD with Phoenix Classics.
PIANO MARATHONS
In 2008, during a concert organized by “Serate Musicali” at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, he performed a marathon of four piano concertos in one evening (Mozart K. 488, Rachmaninoff No. 2, Tchaikovsky No. 1, and Liszt No. 2), earning high praise from music critic Gian Mario Benzing in Corriere della Sera, who wrote: “I’ve never seen anything like it (…)”.
In 2010, at the same theater, he was the lead performer in another marathon, this time playing five concertos in a row. La Repubblica featured a two-page special on the event, including an interview with the pianist.
In 2013, for yet another marathon organized by “Serate Musicali” at the Verdi Hall of the Milan Conservatory, TG1 aired a feature with an interview, and Corriere della Sera called him the “inventor of a genre,” dedicating a special feature in the weekly magazine Sette.
Years later, Corriere della Sera revisited the event in their cultural supplement La Lettura.
INTERNATIONAL CONCERTS AND RECOGNITION
In October 2014, with the Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, he performed two piano marathons back-to-back: one at the Konzertsaal of the University of the Arts in Berlin and the other at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. The latter was recorded live and released as a double CD, Marathon at the Gewandhaus, by Amadeus magazine.
After listening to the CD, Quirino Principe wrote in Il Sole 24 Ore: “Aversano’s marathon is powerful.”
He then made his debut at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, where he performed another marathon, accompanied by the MAV Symphony Orchestra of Budapest under the direction of Fabio Mastrangelo. Following a Beethoven recital at the Verdi Hall of the Milan Conservatory for Serate Musicali, Corriere della Sera described him as the “Apostle of a musical vision steeped in classical culture.”
In 2017, he made his debut at Teatro alla Scala, performing with the Scala String Quartet. As both conductor and pianist, he played Mozart’s Concerto K. 488 with the Cameristi della Scala at the Teatro Politeama in Catanzaro.
He also performed as a soloist with the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for Serate Musicali at the Milan Conservatory, and held another piano marathon at the Dora Stoutzker Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff with the Cardiff Sinfonietta.
Additionally, he performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Istanbul with the Istanbul State Orchestra and in Thessaloniki with the City Orchestra at the Megaron Concert Hall.
RECENT PERFORMANCES AND FUTURE PROJECTS
In 2022, he returned to the Teatro alla Scala’s season, performing Mozart and Beethoven’s Wind Quintets with “I Solisti della Scala.” On this occasion, he also played several Scarlatti Sonatas from his Warner Classics CD, recorded and released that same year.
After completing his classical studies, he graduated with honors in Modern Literature from the University of Salerno, with a thesis on “Dante and Music.” Among his esteemed mentors was Aldo Ciccolini.
Since 2023, he has been collaborating with the Santa Cecilia Wind Quintet, with whom he will perform in November during the Chamber Season of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, in a live broadcast on Rai Radio Tre.
He has also begun an important collaboration with the prestigious Janáček Quartet.
